Purpose and Types of Psychological Testing, Evaluations, and Assessments

Psychodiagnostic tests are valid and reliable forms of psychological assessment, providing complex understanding of thought processes, personality characteristics and mood states for the purpose of accurately diagnosing an individual’s mental health concerns. They can be used as a part of comprehensive evaluation, to ensure diagnostic accuracy and to assist the clinician in planning appropriate treatment for the client.

An ADHD and Autism evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their cognitive, social, and behavioral patterns. This process can provide valuable insights into how attention, executive functioning, and social interactions impact daily life, allowing for personalized recommendations and support strategies tailored to each person’s unique strengths and challenges.

Accommodations testing is a process used to evaluate an individual’s cognitive, psychological, and functional abilities to determine whether additional resources will support equal access and enhance performance in school, the workplace, or other environments. This might include extra time on exams, assistive technology, modified work environments, scheduling considerations, or other adjustments based on an individual’s specific needs.

Cognitive Assessments may include a variety of formal assessments of an individual’s abilities and skills. Assessments may cover a wide range of areas, including an assessment of IQ/level of intelligence, perceptual abilities, verbal and non-verbal skills, attention and processing or memory abilities.

An Immigration Psychological Evaluation is psychological assessment that is used to help immigration courts determine whether an individual will be able to remain lawfully in the United States. Immigration Evaluations include an in-depth assessment related to the immigrant’s mental health deficits related to immigration. Some common areas include: PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Parental Issues, Learning Disabilities and Cognitive Impairments. Immigration evaluations can be utilized in cases of political asylum, extreme hardship, or spousal abuse cases when psychological factors may be significant.
